In this study, the author interviewed and observed six third generation Mexican American teachers in the South Texas borderlands region to examine their perceptions of the connections that they believed to be making with their first, second, third generation, and beyond Mexican American students. The author analyzed the participants’ narratives using constant comparisons: (a) racialized experiences, (b) social advocacy, (c) language, (d) ethnic pride, (e) social economic challenges and class experiences, (f) age range, and (g) family roles. The seven constant comparisons allowed the researcher to systematically analyze the participants’ contextualized stories. The participants’ contextualized narratives were further analyzed using the critical race theory lens to document their experiences with class, gender, and race discrimination in the South Texas borderlands region. In addition, the six participants’ stories and practices during their observations were analyzed to determine if they were being “conductors.” The researcher also utilized Trueba’s (1973) tenets: (a) examine the framework of cultural experiences of the Mexican American, (b) determine whether their experiences were polarized and reflected different philosophies of education, and (c) take into account the expectations of Mexican American educators and see programmatic developments from their point of view to further analyze the research findings. The author found that third generation Mexican American teachers in two South Texas borderlands region school districts were making culturally relevant connections with their students, and that translates into academic success

One situation that has brought problems in the colombian business sector has been the same dependence as technologies are concerned. In this sense, technology management involves driving all aspects related to the generation and introduction of technological changes in the company, allowing catalyze innovations in strategic, managerial, cultural, organizational and infrastructure systems inside. In this context, the investigation to be applied for industrial projects, why the general objective to propose a model of technological management for industrial projects is justified. For this, a theoretical basis is established authors like Chiavenato, Hurtado and Toro, Paneque which served as reference for this investigation for which a methodology was used with a field design not experimental, transactional descriptive. As for the results and l purpose it is to meet the requirements of the industry which in turn translates into good service for customers who depend on it, ensuring growth and profitability for shareholders, keeping the resource human both qualified as motivated as well as continuous improvement of processes in optimal safety conditions

    Get PDF
Novice school principals’ challenges range from school and curricular restructuring, pressures of accountability, and changing local initiatives. The interplay from these different variables leads some novice school principals to abandon their positions during their third year (Fuller & Orr, 2008). This narrative case study explored the relationship of the transformational and transactional leadership practices of two elementary novice principals. The first goal of this narrative case study was to complement course content with a field-based learning experience. Secondly, in this field-based theory to practice research experience, Educational Administration graduate students interviewed two novice school principals. Data analysis focused on the interplay of transformational and transactional leadership decisions when novice school principals address challenges like school and curricular restructuring, pressures of accountability, and changing local initiatives

Preparing Aspiring School Principals: One Field-Based Approach

    Get PDF
In the United States, principals play a vital role in leading educational institutions. School principals are responsible for creating safe and supportive learning environments for all students. Previous studies have emphasized that all principals share one challenge, which is to identify effective instructional strategies that help decrease student achievement gaps. Studies of novice school principals are well-documented; it is also well-acknowledged that the acclimatization process for novice school principals is characterized with a high level of stress related to the organizational structures that influence the school’s culture and climate and student achievement. This study addresses the implementation of a field-based approach utilized by a principal preparation program to provide principal candidates an opportunity to connect theory with practice and expand their understanding of novice principals’ daily responsibilities. To that end, this work serves aspiring principal candidates in their transition from the classroom into a leadership role. Furthermore, this field-based experience informs aspiring principals about novice school principals’ daily responsibilities

Estimating Daily NO2 Ground Level Concentrations Using Sentinel-5P and Ground Sensor Meteorological Measurements

Environmental and health deterioration due to the increasing presence of air pollutants is a pressing topic for governments and organizations. Institutions such as the European Environment Agency have determined that more than 350,000 premature deaths can be attributed to atmospheric pollutants. The measurement of trace gas atmospheric concentrations is key for environmental agencies to fight against the decreased deterioration of air quality. NO2 , which is one of the most harmful pollutants, has the potential to cause diseases such as Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD). Unfortunately, not all countries have local atmospheric pollutant monitoring networks to perform ground measurements (especially Low- and Middle-Income Countries). Although some alternatives, such as satellite technologies, provide a good approximation for tropospheric NO2 , these do not measure concentrations at the ground level. In this work, we aim to provide an alternative to ground sensor measurements. We used a combination of ground meteorological measurements with satellite Sentinel-5P observations to estimate ground NO2 . For this task, we used state-of-the-art Machine Learning models, linear regression models, and feature selection algorithms. From the results obtained, we found that a Multi-layer Perceptron Regressor and Kriging in combination with a Random Forest feature selection algorithm achieved the lowest RMSE (2.89 µg/m3 ). This result, in comparison with the real data standard deviation and the models using only satellite data, represented an RMSE decrease of 55%. Future work will focus on replacing the use of meteorological ground sensors with only satellite-based data

The victims of traumatic events, which are taken as a reference for the assembly of the work, have the objective of creating a broad and sufficient vision for the analysis of what it is to make an accompaniment in scenes of Violence in Colombia through stories that are significant for their actors by the pain that was caused in their lives through clearly unfortunate events from which an opportunity is generated, for future professionals who will be at the service of improving mental health, we are training based on those testimonies that bravely decide capture and make public, like all the people who, due to indiscriminate situations, come to read these stories will reflect and learn based on what they are and what they have to offer and improve their lives. Colombia is usually a bipartisan country where minorities are not heard and are oppressed but the text is changing and the study is changing exclusion and discrimination where the story of Peñas Coloradas presented in the same work is a reliable example of the dominance that it has the state on populations and how they are victims of what the defender should be "save the skin, fill the belly, find good land and put it to production" Truth Commission (2019) these are the words of many peasants who seek tranquility and are the true engine of the economy thanks to the countryside and its inhabitants, the cities move food and with them the lives of all. The following document contains the analysis of Camilo's case from the book VOCES: tales of violence and hope from the World Bank (2009), together with the formulation of circular, reflexive and strategic questions, in order to further expand the case from the field of psychology. Following this, an analysis and presentation of psychosocial approach strategies for the Peñas Coloradas Case will be presented. Likewise, an analytical and reflective report of the experience of photo voice is presented, making use of the image and the narrative in different scenarios of violence

Architecture of an object-oriented modeling framework for human occupation

    Get PDF
The limitations of the actual theoretical structure of occupational science are discussed emphasizing on its implications when dealing with the stability and sustainability of social systems. By using a literature review focused on the time evolution and disciplinary distribution of the scientific production about human occupation, it is verified the insufficient production leading to the development of models that facilitate quantitative reasoning to support decision making. As an alternative, the architecture of an object-oriented framework is proposed. The framework is presented by using an UML (Unified Modeling Language) class diagram of a generic occupational system, including the class model of each system’s component: attributes and behaviors. Finally, guidelines are given for the use of the models produced with the framework in simulating diverse occupation systems scenarios
